Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien is celebrating today’s crucial milestone formalising a South-East Queensland City Deal.

Mr O’Brien was in Brisbane for the Statement of Intent signing where all three tiers of government committed to work collaboratively on the project.

“This is another important milestone in achieving both a 45-minute region and 30-minute cities,” Mr O’Brien said.

“It is only with all three tiers of government working together that we can get ahead of the population curve and ensure that the liveability of our fast-growth region continues into the future.

“In the spirit of collaboration it was also great to have all three tiers of government from the Sunshine Coast represented with State MP Andrew Powell and Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson present.”

Chairman of the South East Queensland Council of Mayors Graham Quirk also personally acknowledged the contribution Mr O’Brien has made to the city deal.

“I am very pleased with the six priority areas identified in the Statement of Intent.  In particular, connecting infrastructure, jobs, liveability and sustainability along with housing and planning are all extremely relevant to our region on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I was also delighted to see that the Statement’s digital focus directly referenced working with local government and leveraging the new Sunshine Coast International Submarine Cable,” he said.
