Across the Sunshine Coast more people are falling into hardship, and too many are finding themselves without a safe place to sleep.
That’s why I launched a community campaign to bring the Sunny Coast Sleeper Bus to Nambour.
The response from the community has already been incredible. In just a few weeks we have raised more than $6,000, pushing us past the halfway mark towards our fundraising goal.
But there is still more work to do.
Across the country living standards are going backwards and more people are slipping through the cracks. Services like the Sleeper Bus provide immediate, practical support for people who need it most.
Delivered by the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre, the Sunny Coast Sleeper Bus is a converted coach that provides a safe and supervised overnight place to sleep for up to nine people each night who would otherwise be sleeping rough, with volunteers on board throughout the night.
How You Can Help
This is a true community effort, and there are two ways you can get involved.
You can donate to help keep the service running, or you can volunteer your time to support the people who rely on it.
A donation of just $15 can help keep someone off the street for a night.
I’ve already signed up for my second volunteer shift on the Sleeper Bus and contributed to help get the service operating in Nambour. I’m incredibly grateful to the many locals who have done the same.
But if we want this service to continue helping people secure a safe night’s sleep throughout the year, we need more support from the community.
If you’re able to contribute, whether through a donation or by volunteering your time, it will make a real difference.
