A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $75,000 for the purchase and installation of permanent CCTV cameras at Brightwater Lakeside Park.
Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien worked closely with the Brightwater community to determine how to best meet their needs.
“Extensive consultation within the community has identified a number of concerns local residents have around their safety as individuals and for families using the park on Freshwater Street,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I have door knocked many households around the area and spoken with both the Community Association and Neighbourhood Watch to hear first-hand about the problems being experienced, as well as the best possible solutions.
“So I am delighted to be able to announce this commitment from a re-elected Morrison Government to purchase and install a number of CCTV cameras for the Brightwater Park precinct.”
Neighbourhood Watch Area Coordinator and secretary of the Brightwater Community Association, Allan Rankin, said the CCTV cameras would be “strategically located around the Brightwater estate as a deterrent to criminal and anti-social behaviour”.
“Brightwater has experienced a spate of criminal activity and a growing pattern of youth anti‑social behaviour in our parks and outdoor recreational spaces, including wilful damage, verbal abuse of residents and recently a physical assault,” Mr Rankin said.
“As well as acting as a deterrent, CCTV cameras would be an invaluable asset in the identification of offenders,” he said.
Mr O’Brien said only the Liberals and Nationals had a strong plan for regional Australia that put locals first.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government can be trusted to keep communities safe because that’s what we’ve done for the past six years,” he said.
“And because the Morrison Government is committed to strong economic management we will have the means to invest in community safety and security.
“We are all entitled to feel safe in our homes, streets and communities,” Mr O’Brien said.
