SECURITY will be beefed up at housing complexes on the Sunshine Coast to prevent violence, drug crimes and anti-social behaviour.
Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien today announced a substantial grant of $28,020 to install CCTV cameras at three facilities at Maroochydore, Nambour and Parrearra managed by the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Mr O’Brien said funding was allocated under round three of the Federal Government’s $30million Safer Communities Fund to address crime and anti-social behaviour and protect organisations from racial or religious intolerance.
“The Sunshine Coast is generally a safe place to live but like most communities there is always room for improvement,” said Mr O’Brien.
“The best way to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour is to prevent it happening. Everyone on the Sunshine Coast has the right to feel safe and secure.”
Vinnies Queensland Northern Region executive officer Stuart Roche thanked the Federal Government for its vital contribution.
“We identified CCTV as a priority for a number of locations on the Sunshine Coast to provide a deterrent for anti-social behaviour and promote community safety in the area,” said Mr Roche.
“This funding will mean more money can be directed toward helping people in need.”
Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said the Safer Communities Fund was an election commitment from 2016, providing $70million over three rounds to 2020.
“The Coalition will continue to assist local councils and organisations to address crime and antisocial behaviour and make our nation safer,” said Mr Dutton.
