Maroochydore Swans Football Club fans will be keeping cool and dry next season following the installation of a new weather-proof roof.
Federal Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien MP officially opened the new under-cover area for footy spectators following a $42,529 Federal grant from the former Coalition Government that helped fund the new roof.
Mr O’Brien said the massive funding boost was secured through the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) which was designed to support regional communities into the future.
“I’m delighted to provide funding to help local groups like the Maroochydore Football Club to deliver infrastructure that benefits its members, the community at large and supports local jobs,” Ted O’Brien said.
“The new roof structure provides shade as well as wet weather protection for soccer spectators so that the Club’s events can be well-supported whatever the weather.”
Maroochydore Football Club Treasurer Steve Brooks thanked Mr O’Brien for supporting the funding application for this long-awaited roof structure.
“It’s been a work in progress for 15 years to raise funds for this project,” said Mr Brooks “It wouldn’t have been possible without 50 per cent of the project costs provided by the Federal Government grant.”
“After wet weather delayed the project several times, the Club was thrilled to see this finally finished in time for the end of the season.
“Now our mums and dads will be able to spread out under the shade of this new roof structure to watch their kids play, rather than squashing onto our small veranda area.”
