A Marcoola plastics manufacturer has been selected to produce a world-first protective, ventilating window covering designed to help combat climate change.
The Window WeatherGuard is a moulded plastic shield which attaches to household windows allowing free-flow ventilation day and night regardless of the weather.
Inventor Andrew Cottle said his patented design took more than 10 years to develop and bring to market.
“It’s secure, it improves air quality in the home and it helps keep properties cool in summer reducing air conditioning needs which means a smaller carbon footprint,” Mr Cottle said.
“The other thing I was fiercely determined about was that it was going to be Australian made,” he said.
Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien said the innovation was in alignment with the Prime Minister’s National Innovation Science Agenda.
“This is an innovation which has been designed in Australia by an Aussie and better still, it’s going to be manufactured right here in Fairfax, boosting our local manufacturing industry and bringing employment to the small coastal town of Marcoola,” Mr O’Brien said.
Haigh Australia operates Protective Plastics. Managing Director Alan McMahon said the successful launch of Window WeatherGuards could see local staff numbers double.
“As the business continues to grow it will mean more employment for the local community. This new contract could see another eight positions created at Marcoola,” Mr McMahon said.
