NOTICE – Ramp closures at Caloundra Road interchange, 18 & 19 March 2018

Local News

Ramp closures at Caloundra Road interchange

Temporary ramp closures will be in effect at the Caloundra Road interchange on Sunday 18 March and Monday 19 March 2018 between 8pm and 5am when traffic volumes are lower, as Energex conducts major electricity service relocation works at the interchange.

The scheduled ramp closures are as follows:

Sunday 18 March 2018 between 8pm and 5am

  • Bruce Highway northbound exit ramp to Caloundra Road and Steve Irwin Way (Exit 188)

Monday 19 March 2018 between 8pm and 5am

  • Bruce Highway southbound exit ramp to Caloundra Road (Exit 188A)
  • Bruce Highway southbound exit ramp to Landsborough (Exit 188B)
  • Caloundra Road interchange overpass westbound, towards Landsborough (the eastbound lane of the overpass will operate as normal).

Detours will be in place while ramp closures are in effect. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

It is important to note timeframes for these works may change due to wet weather or other site conditions.

TMR apologises for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.

About service relocation works

There are a number of services within the project corridor, including water, sewerage, electricity and telecommunications. As part of the upgrade, some of this infrastructure needs to be relocated or protected.

This may include re-stringing overhead power lines, relocating existing power poles and relocating overhead electricity services underground, or relocating existing underground water and telecommunications services.

Interruptions to services may be required during relocation or protection works for services. Affected properties will be notified by your service provider.

Vegetation removal works continue: Palmview, Sippy Downs and Tanawha

Vegetation removal works are continuing at Palmview, Sippy Downs and Tanawha with crews working adjacent to the Bruce Highway, Sunshine Motorway, Bellflower Road and Pignata Road. Crews are preparing to soon move closer to the Sippy Downs and Sunshine Motorway interchanges, including areas near Sippy Downs Drive, Cunning Road, Tanawha Road and Tanawha Tourist Drive.

Both day and night works are required to complete these works. Where trees are located in close proximity to the road, works must be completed at night for the safety of workers and road users. Grinding and mulching works are carried out during the day to minimise impacts on nearby residents.

Temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits will also be in effect during night works.

During night works, nearby residents can expect audible noise as heavy machinery, including chainsaws, will be in use. Construction crews must use chainsaws to carefully remove trees that are located near underground services. This is a safety requirement to reduce the risk of unintentional service strikes. Temporary lighting towers will also be used to light work areas at night.

The vegetation removal is required to allow space to six-lane the highway and upgrade the Sunshine Motorway interchange. It will also allow for intersection upgrades at the Sippy Downs interchange and for construction of a new southbound on-ramp from the interchange to the Bruce Highway.

Fauna spotters are monitoring all vegetation removal works to ensure wildlife is protected and if required, relocated.
