MEDIA STATEMENT FROM TED O’BRIEN MP

Federal Liberal Party Members and Senators from across Australia met in Parliament House in Canberra today.

In a show of unity, Peter Dutton and Sussan Ley were elected unopposed as Leader and Deputy leader respectively.

I congratulate both Peter and Sussan and I thank them in advance for their service and leadership of the parliamentary party. I know both Peter and Sussan well and I have every confidence that their experience, strength and commitment will lead the Liberal Party into a positive new era.

There is much work to do over the years ahead in keeping the Albanese Government to account and presenting an alternative vision and suite of policies for Australia, and no one is better equipped to do this than Peter and Sussan.

This is a great outcome for the Liberal Party and a great outcome for Australia.

Losing elections can be tough, you must regroup and renew and that’s exactly what we can now do under the leadership of Peter Dutton and Sussan Ley.

I would also like to extend my congratulations and best wishes to fellow Queenslander David Littleproud who has today secured the leadership of the National Party.

The Liberal National Coalition is already strong, but it will be even stronger with these two outstanding Queenslanders taking the lead.
