Thank you to everyone who attended my Aged Care Forums. It has been a humbling process, both in terms of the stories and experiences being told, as well as a shared sense of purpose and vision of how the aged care sector can improve into the future. I am now in the process of analysing and collating the forum notes into an electorate wide submission to the Royal Commission.

As a community we expect a high standard when it comes to the care and safety of our elderly and young Australians with disability living in residential aged care settings. The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety will proactively determine what we need to do in the future to ensure these expectations can be met.
We have a higher than average ageing population on the Sunshine Coast, with one in five residents aged over 65 and so it’s vital that this region has its voice heard on this issue.
If you live in Fairfax, Ted is seeking your feedback and input into an electorate-wide submission to the Royal Commission. Ted is hosting three forums to distil issues affecting clients, their families and friends; those working in the aged care sector; and providers of aged care services.

The Federal Government has announced the Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission which can be found here.
A separate website for the Royal Commission been established – www.agedcare.royalcommission.gov.au – and provides information about how the public can engage with the Royal Commission, including how submissions can be made, and when and where hearings will be held. Ted encourages direct submissions to the Royal Commission.
The Honourable Justice Joseph McGrath and Ms Lynelle Briggs AO have been appointed Commissioners. Justice McGrath is a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Ms Briggs is a former Chief Executive Officer of Medicare and Australian Public Service Commissioner.
The Royal Commission’s interim report is to be provided by 31 October 2019, and its final report no later than 30 April 2020.
