Keeping his focus firmly on vital Sunshine Coast infrastructure, Member for Fairfax Ted O’Brien has used his second speech in as many days this week, to bring the upgrade of the Sunshine Coast Airport to Parliament’s attention.
“This is a game changing project that will help unleash the economic capacity of the region,” Mr O’Brien told the House.
But he acknowledged “delivering on the vision isn’t easy because it requires an upgrade without over-capitalisation, debt funding without leaving the rate payer with a long term liability and a partnership with a player that brings demonstrable expertise.”
“I pay tribute to the owners of the asset, the Sunshine Coast Council, which is doing just this with help from others including the Turnbull Coalition Government,” Mr O’Brien said.
Speaking after his address, Ted O’Brien said “in my Maiden Speech I promised the people of the Sunshine Coast that I would be their man in Canberra, not Canberra’s man on the Sunshine Coast and that is absolutely what I intend to do.”
Only yesterday, Mr O’Brien delivered his inaugural private member’s motion, calling on the Queensland Government to fast track planning studies into Bruce Highway upgrades between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
