A re-elected Coalition Government will fund additional stages of the Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club redevelopment project.
The Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club will receive $90,000 to complete the Club’s three-year redevelopment project if the LNP Government is re-elected.
Federal Member for Fairfax, Ted O’Brien announced today that the family-oriented Club would use the ‘much needed’ funds to support important external work on the Clubhouse including the installation of a shade sail.
The incumbent LNP member, a long-time advocate of the organisation, said that the Club had become a great source of pride for the local community.
“The Beach is central to the lifestyles of Mudjimba locals and it’s the selfless work of the Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club that makes this possible.”
“If the LNP Coalition Government is re-elected I will deliver $90,000 for the Mudjimba Surf Club to complete its renovations which have been ongoing for three years.
“The Mudjimba Surf Club contributes so much to the community which is why I will continue fighting to secure the funding it requires.
To retain the Club’s family friendly atmosphere, Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club have chosen not to introduce a ‘supporters bar’ or pokie machines at this stage, making it challenging to raise funds for unexpected expenses or upgrades.
Through a decade of hard work and saving by the Club, and with support from sponsors and the Sunshine Coast Council, Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club was able to raise the funds needed to complete the first stages of the renovations which included a community/training room, new Club office, storage area and a kiosk.
In 2019, while in the middle of renovations, the Club also found that the ageing building required urgent repairs, turning to the community for support, and through a massive fundraising campaign it successfully raised the funds needed to complete the repairs and continue the renovations.
“The local community has already shown that they share the Club’s vision by coming together and raising the money needed for the repairs and renovations to the club in a very short period of time,” said Mr O’Brien.
“The $90,000 that a re-elected Morrison Government will deliver will swing in behind the community to ensure these renovations are finished.”
If a Coalition Government is re-elected, this would bring the total Federal funding secured by Ted O’Brien for the family friendly club to over $110,855, with $13,255 already delivered mid-2021 for the renovations.
Mudjimba Surf Life Saving Club Director of Youth and Member Development, Kamen Burns outlined the Mudjimba Surf Lifesaving Club’s appreciation for Ted O’Brien’s commitment to provide funding support for the club facilities development if the Morrison Government is re-elected.
“The Mudjimba Surf Club has undertaken significant facilities redevelopment over the past three years and will be keen to utilise future funding to significantly improve shade provisions around the perimeter of the clubhouse and provide sun safe areas for our Nipper, youth programs and the many local community groups that use that space,” Ms Burns said.
“Mudjimba SLSC’s goal is to maintain safety on our beach and we are proud of our values of a fun, family friendly, community connected club.
“To allow us to provide this community support, we rely heavily on grants, donations and government support at all levels.”
“Projects like this are only possible because the Morrison Government’s plan to deliver a strong economy,” Mr O’Brien said.
