Labor’s Family Car Tax 2.0 was introduced to parliament this week under the guise of the ‘New Vehicle Efficiency Standard Bill 2024’.
The lack of transparency has been extraordinary. The government isn’t telling consumers how much it will drive up vehicle prices, it’s refusing to release any economic modeling and its gagged many industry stakeholders by forcing them to sign non-disclosure agreements.
I therefore put forward a motion calling for the legislation to be scrutinised by a parliamentary committee consisting of MPs from all political parties.
In what can only be described as a move to deliberately deceive the Australian people, this motion was rejected by Labor and also members of the Teal Party who like to wax lyrical about transparency but fall short when it comes to taking action.
