The Finnish Greens were the first Greens political party in the world to reverse its decision on nuclear energy and publicly support the zero emissions technology to decarbonise.
I recently met Tea Törmänen, from the Finnish Greens to learn how her party changed its mind on nuclear energy and how Finland’s political parties have managed to enjoy a level of bipartisanship when it comes to nuclear technology.
Tea explained that the reason for the change of mind was simple. She believes that nuclear energy is critical to achieving net zero emissions.
In speaking with Tea, I was again reminded of the need for a pragmatic approach to decarbonisation which will require a balance of technologies.
Tea is also a co-founder of RePlanet which she helped launch in Australia which takes a scientific approach to emissions reduction.
